Damson, Stockport (1)

Time of visit: 6 July 2013

The best in Stockport, IMHO.

I used to believe the ranking system on Tripadvisor was reliable, what considered as #1 on Tripadvisor was the best amongst all reviewed in a city or area. But lately I don't really believe it anymore. A restaurant with 20 reviews can beat another restaurant with 200 reviews because, I think, the percentage of the latter is lower than the other (I don't know exactly the system they apply). If 19 people say excellent, 1 person says terrible for X, then 185 people say excellent, 15 people say terrible for Y, I would think that the review for Y is more reliable . That is the first thing I would consider which restaurant is better. Then I would also look into what reviewers say, what kind of food, whether the place is nice or not (photos are helpful). So personally I would not say that #1 is always the best.

Damson, for quite long time, was voted as #1 of restaurants in Stockport with more than 200 reviews before I went there. I believed it was reliable, I believed Damson was the best based on the high number of reviews submitted.
By the time I wrote this post, Damson is #4 (with 333 reviews), the #1 is Ashton's Fish and Chips (47 reviews), #2 is Dutsons (26 reviews), #3 is Chilli Massalla Indian Restarant &Takeaway ('restarant', as it is written).

After I went to Damson, compared to other restaurants in Stockport, in my opinion, Damson is the best in Stockport. The foods were all tasty. They were the result of a creative chef who knew how to cook and how to present them. The service was great, even in a busy environment, the staff still managed to smile and be attentive. Price was a bit high, but for what you got, it was reasonable. A bit down side was the place. They need a more spacious place in a better location. All in all, we were satisfied. Very satisfied.
