Gastropub: Fox & Barrell, Cotebrook, Cheshire

Time of visit: 26 October 2013

Awarded as Cheshire Life Dining Pub of the Year 2012/2013 with Richard ‘Dickie’ Cotterill who worked at Box Tree restaurant and Chester Grosvenor restaurant (both are Michelin starred establishments) as the head chef, my expectation was high to find good food here. Thank God, traveling 45 minutes was worthwhile. The oxtail risotto was to die for!!! Never had anything like it.

We arrived at 18:50, rain & cold.

Mismatched chairs.

Very delicate and crunchy toasts came with my starter.

His starter: oxtail risotto, horseradish mascarpone & madeira. This is
the highlight of the meal. Superb!!

His main: grouse, lentils, game faggot (delish!!), juniper sauce.

My main: duck, spiced red cabbage, carrot puree, duck & date samosa.

My dessert: passion fruit & mango cheesecake. Spectacular!! Pity I ate
only 1/3 of it because I was full.
